Pootle…
Had a bit of a pootle today.
Not far from the city.
Only about 40 minutes as the crow flies. But we took the dirt roads and the back roads and found beaches…
And cliffs…
And little corners of Frederick Henry Bay that we hadn’t seen before.
We stopped for a picnic. Young Dog more interested in our food than Old Dog who wandered off out of frame.
This fine red-breasted chap just had to show off.
And because they were there on the sides of the roads, we had to take pics of the mailboxes.
Especially this one which required two pics, it was so cute…
And we finished off the day at the farm where OH did his daily check of the pregnant girls and the dogs and I sat and listened to the white sulphur-crested cockatoos sweeping over the oats crop.
First lamb literally only days away now. Maybe that’ll be the next blogpost…
Those mailboxes are crazy! Never seen anything like them before.
Kathryn, they are hilarious. Many country folk place them at the end of their lanes to their front gates. It’s a sort of country thing here. Someone published a photographic essay about them a few years ago and it was wonderful.I’ve tried to locate it and will keep looking. Meanwhile, when I see more letterboxes, I will take a pic and do more posts.
We don’t really go in for mailboxes here and when we do they’re generally very unimaginative. They’re most intriguing! Must keep the postman amused 🙂
It’s a tedious job being a country mailman – miles of dusty, unsealed roads often and the property owners’ houses might not be down on the road but a long way inland, thus he doesn’t even get to talk to them. So yes, I guess those mailboxes would be the highlight of the day.
