I’ve been invited by Tinney S Heath, author the wonderfully crafted A Thing Done, (winner of the 2013 Sharp Writ Award) to take part in a Main Character Blog Tour.
My main character was launched onto the world two books ago but is currently make her presence felt as I finish the last novel in a trilogy. Read on…
This year I’ve been lucky enough to be invited to include pieces in two historical anthologies. One fiction, one very factual. In two of the three pieces for the editions, my forbear, William Owen Millington was the subject and the inspiration.
Recently I noticed a review about one of my hist.romances which claimed some degree of anachronism – did people really bathe that much in the twelfth century? In fact my reading has shown there is a complete disparity of opinion over this issue, which meant I must make a choice. I did. I was writing fiction and I chose the scholarly fact that best backed what I wished to say.
So often people ask why I’ve written a saga about Guy of Gisborne and not Robin Hood, Arthur, Abelard, Tristan or any of the many others from legend and history. So perhaps I need to place it more fully in black and white.
Two years ago, I discovered English Historical fiction Authors on Facebook. Subsequently, I began to follow their wonderful blog and being a medieval aficionado (for that, read writer) as well as a Georgian and Regency fan, there were many blogposts which I bookmarked for future reference.
Welcome aboard everyone! I’m part of a nautical blog hop this week … and I promise to offer you more than just mere ship’s biscuit and stale water on this voyage…

‘The nef’s sail seemed to define my very existence – a small expanse of canvas patched and re-patched so that it could continue on. It seemed I’d been on the sea for months and I despaired ever being able to place toes on land.’ Gisborne: Book of Knights.
I’m shortly to take part in a nautical adventure – a journey through time on ships that will make your eyes boggle. You can join me as well if you like, as this takes place:
During this voyage you can sail on 12th century nefs, 16th century war galleys, on whaling vessels and smugglers’ cutters. You can even learn what its like to be a woman aboard tall ships of the times and find out how they survived.
As the end of the first draft of Gisborne: Book of Knights rapidly approaches, space appears in the mind for new novels. I have three little rooms slowly filling and occasionally, when time permits, I hop on my flying carpet to travel from room to room to investigate the ideas.
The unearthing of Richard III’s remains has redefined how we all view history. To think that the body, hastily thrown in a grave 600 years ago, was unearthed at a time when forensic study can offer so much detail reminds me of the phrase ‘let there be light!’.
