Mellow yellow…
I came back to House from three days in the Big Smoke last week to find my sunflowers had burst into bloom and it made me feel so happy that I broke into a huge smile as I opened the bedroom curtains. I distinctly remember this bold yellow disk grinning at me so that I just had to whisper ‘Wow.’
And I always remember that wonderful piece from Calendar Girls:
“I don’t think there’s anything on this planet that more trumpets life that the sunflower. For me that’s because of the reason behind its name. Not because it looks like the sun but because it follows the sun. During the course of the day, the head tracks the journey of the sun across the sky. A satellite dish for sunshine. Wherever light is, no matter how weak, these flowers will find it. And that’s such an admirable thing. And such a lesson in life.”
Such a lesson in life, indeed.
So thinking on light and sun, I decided to wander around my fast fading summer garden and take pics of all that’s left of yellows in the belief that for all those still surrounded by water, snow, ice and cold – that you too can seek the light and know that summer is coming.
More sunflowers – attracting all sorts of hive dwellers – bumble bees, native bees, honey bees. Wonderful for the garden and we honey lovers.
Zucchini flower…
Dandelion flower…
Patio pumpkins…
And just to be a bit different because the yellow nasturtiums had disappeared –
An orange nasturtium.
Glorious, Prue. They made me smile too. They’ll keep me in yellow till our daffodils arrive!
Hope that’s very soon, Ann.
Ahh…the Kansas state flower, that farmers here fuss at because they near weed proportions! Have you ever seen acres and acres of sunflowers following the sun in unison?! A definite WOW moment!!! BTW, we’re in near blizzard conditions. Arose this AM to white stuff. Yeehaww.
Great pics!
Ah Queen, I can imagine field after field in Kansas. I’ve seen swathes of them growing in Tuscany and following the light and that was a sight, to be sure. More snow? It seems I put the pics up at just the right moment for you. You are having THE worst time.
Beautiful way to start my morning- I love the yellow flowers. Thanks for sharing.
A pleasure, Ann. They make one smile, don’t they?
What a gorgeous brightener to a foggy winter morning in California! Thanks, Prue!
As always, Ann, I love giving and receiving brighteners. BIG day of writing to day so any exchange of positive thought is a great motivator!
How cheery, especially when I look outside and see our snow!
And that’s why I put it up, Denise. So you could soak up some summer sun!
