Back roads…
This weekend we left House and headed inland through all the back roads to a little village we happen to like quite a lot.
We passed a number of stone cottages like this.
Empty.
And worse.
Spotted this stunning aged eucalypt – what a matriarch!
We thought seed gathering beneath might be rather good.
We arrived in Oatlands the back way and hoped the quirky and wonderful little nursery would be open. Sadly…
But it is filled with wonderful things like these…
Then my camera ran out of life and my husband kindly offered to take pics with his i-Phone but for some reason they developed a slightly blue tinge. Sigh…
We began walking, and found we were there on just the right day with a bullock team walking up the main street to the flour mill to celebrate a heritage day.
Blossom had begun to bloom – delighted! Spring is so close.
The flour mill has just had new sails installed and the result is fresh ground organic flour which the eateries have used to bake their bread.
To my left and right a new formal garden that is a work in progress. Loved it.
Then there are shops of antiques, fine crafted childrens’ wear, stunning French-style décor and my favourite, The Jardin Room, which has a display of formal and informal garden accoutrements to lust after.
But of course time waits for no man…
and two dogs sat alone at home, so we hotfooted it back to our own little patch of Paradise for a walk on the beach…
We visited Oatlands on a cold and windy day when everything was closed. It reminded me of the Yourkshire moors and I was enchanted.
My husbands iPhone went to ‘blue setting’ whilst we were at Richmond gaol. He had to text one of our children to get instructions for getting it back to normal!
Oatlands is often cold and windy, Bollyknickers, you scored a fairly normal winter’s day. And then they have fog and even snow sometimes but Saturday was an absolute blessing. It is like Yorkshire – I was especially reminded when watching the Tour de france in Yorkshire over the weekend. And the Jardin Room? Oh sigh, sigh, sigh! I also bought a yummy scarf in greys, camels, browns and taupes – very much my winter colours – at one of the shops. Seen nothing like it in town…
What causes that ‘blue’ setting on the i-phone? We’ll have to get our daughter to sort it for us. She’s our go-to with Apple. We’re such luddites!
Exiting the blue setting- when you are on ‘camera’ there is an icon on the bottom right hand side which is three overlapping circles. If you press that, the screen divides into a grid with different effects in each. Tap ‘none’ ( the one in the middle) to return to a normal view.
I love the iPhone but it’s willingness to go into different modes without the user apparently touching it is interesting. At one point during our visit to Richmond, I was stuck on video and Mr Bolly was in blue mode so neither of us could take a decent photo until we had texted a child to get help.
Thanks, Bollyknickers. We fixed it!!!
