The day that was MEANT to be…
Saturday was Australia Day and we were meant to spend it on the water. That was the plan. But it showered and blew and so it was cancelled. But today…
The north corner of Chinamens Beach, Maria Island…
Enjoying the warmth and sun…
Shells under the sea…
A distorted sea-monster swimming under water…
Spotting a stingray about 3.5 feet across its wings…right where we’d been swimming!
There it is. Better than a whitepointer I suppose!
Walked across the isthmus to Riedles’ Beach where a stonking nor-easter swell just had to be sampled. Cold, but the waves were FABULOUS. NZ straight ahead! A super day and one we’ve craved since last summer.
How lovely! We are nearly drowning in Sydney only a week after the hottest day ever. We went to the movies- along with everyone else in NSW. The Hobbit and Les Mis were completely sold out so we saw Silver Lining Playbook which was excellent.
Hi Bollyknickers. I think going to the movies on a wet day (you’re obviously getting the bottom end of the terrifying Queensland weather) or a hot day is a wonderful thing to do. If it had been super hot, to be honest we wouldn’t have gone away on the boat as we prefer to get under cover on those sorts of days. The hottest day? Wasn’t it horrendous? We too had the hottest ever recorded day for Tas during the fires, 41.8 celsius. We made the comment tonight on watching the Queensland Emergency, that climate change is hitting tsunami-style! Our thoughts are with everyone down the eastern seaboard who are being blown away, burned by bushfires and buried in water. Terrible. Three weeks ago when we watched Tassie burn and went into protective mode for our own farm just in case, I truly wondered if we would have the chance to have a relaxing few days this summer. It seemed unlikely. I can now say that if today ends up being the only day away on the boat, that’s okay. It was perfect enough to be difficult to emulate.
On a slightly lighter note, I wonder if you’ve seen Quartet yet and if you have what you thought? That’s potentially our next visit to the cinema…
Yes- we went to a charity screening of Quartet a few weeks ago. It wasn’t as good as The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel but it was a nice liitle film. I felt it would have been more suited to being screened on a Saturday night on the ABC.
B.E.M.H was my all time favourite movie of 2012. How can I justify it more than The Hobbit? Perhaps that Marigold left me feeling warm, happy, believing in goodness in my own time whereas The Hobbit, which I adored, was a fantasy and anyone who reads this blog will know how difficult it is for me not to put fantasy at the top of my tree. Especially being 1. a fantasy writer and 2. a Tolkein fan for 40+ years and 3. Peter Jackson is my hero (RA goes without saying!) I’ve got the most awful feeling that so many of RA’s fans will never forgive me for not putting The Hobbit as THE movie of my year. Ah well, c’est la vie.
As a PS I also love the Marogold’s soundtrack which I play frequently.
Beautiful pictures, Prue! Thanks for sharing.
Hello, Gerry! Lovely to see you here again. Thank you re pics. It was a wonderful family day out.
This calls for another long hot soak in the bath, I think. 🙂 With a slide-show of your beautiful photographs playing in my mind.
I’m so glad you got your day on the water at last, after all the bad times.
Hi Giselle. Is it terribly cold in Turkey at the moment?
