Castles, Customs and Kings…
Two years ago, I discovered English Historical fiction Authors on Facebook. Subsequently, I began to follow their wonderful blog and being a medieval aficionado (for that, read writer) as well as a Georgian and Regency fan, there were many blogposts which I bookmarked for future reference.
Then last year, I was invited to contribute my own post to the blog. Honoured, I decided to write about my forbear, William Owen Millington, who was transported to Van Diemans’ Land from England in the 1830’s.
It’s now an honour and a supreme pleasure to say that my own post and many others have been published in the most perfect compendium. For those interested in English historical fact through the ages, I recommend this book heartily.
Hi Prue,
What a nice post- I feel honored that you wrote this. And I really appreciate your permitting the use of your article in the book. Best regards!
Anne, anyone who knows me knows I am a lover of Dorothy Dunnett’s work. There are two excellent companion volumes with much historical explanation that sit by my side when I am re-reading her novels. This compendium, Castles, Customs and Kings, could fulfil much the same purpose as no matter what timeframe one is reading at the time, one could definitely find many entries about different aspects of those timeframes.
Debbie, the book is an inspired idea and you and M.m.Bennetts should be congratulated on the excellent end result. I’m positive that everyone who buys it will find that it sits perfectly as an extension to their hist.fict reading.
What a fascinating idea for a book. I’ll definitely check it out!
It is a fabulous book – only things against it is that it is TOO engrossing – don’t even think about working while you have this book in your hand!” LOL
Isn’t it super to think that there is so much fact to partner such a wide variety of fiction?
