I love scarves.
I wonder why?
Is it the colour combinations?
Is it because it’s natural fibre? Silk, wool or fur?
Is it because it’s graphic design at its best? Wearable art?
Is it because they make me feel happy?
Or because they are versatile and can turn a dull day into a better day?
Is it because nearly all that I have are gifts from family?
I’m not sure what the answer is.
I just know I love them…

I love scarves! I have a ton, especially wear them in autumn 🙂 I love that you can make the most boring shirt playful and happy with the right scarf 🙂
It’s true, Sylvia. They do make an outfit bright and happy… colour where there’s none sort of thing. And the designs can be so divine. I saw a Hermes scarf on a blog the other day that I adore. But as i always say, that’s for when Peter Jackson signs the movie rights!! 😉
Because scarves cover your neck? 😉 (I’m post-60 too, but I don’t like things around my neck.)
More likely because they are a relatively cheap (except for Hermes), easy way to change an outfit, and small to store too.

And wouldn’t we all love a Hermes? I don’t mind things round my neck, in fact I like concealing the neck with anything really. Being an Australian and someone who has enjoyed the sun and sea far too much to be healthy for one’s skin, my neck shows signs of wear and tear. C’est la vie, every line and freckle tells a story! But you are right on all scores, scarves are a small, clever way to ring the changes. I have to say, I’ve been known to sit for quite a while on e-bay, just examining the different patterns on many scarves and enjoying them – not just Hermes although they are the apogee, but really clever and very beautiful vintage scarves from the 40’s/50’s. I cringe when I think of what mum and her sisters threw away before I came to the realisation that scarves were my thing. When I’ve signed movie rights for my books, 🙂 ,everyone who reads this blog knows I’ll buy a Hermes scarf!
And may that Hermes scarf be yours in the near future. 🙂

Peter Jackson for the hist.fantasies without doubt. There’s four of them and I think he would use the WETA Workshop brilliantly for the creatures of myth and legend. But for the hist.fict/romance I am not sure. I wish Merchant/Ivory still produced their films. As it stands – ?

Wearable art? I love scarves too but I can’t really pull them off very well. I’m not very good at tying them.

I often think it’s just a question of throwing them around the neck and letting them fall how they will, Phylly. My favourite way is the old-fashioned standard triangle and just tied once in a loose knot in front. That way the colours and the design are at their best.
